BlackBerry Messenger upcoming to iPhone and Android

Saturday March 05, 2011

BlackBerry Messenger can be accessible on Apple iOS and Android platforms. According to a report Research in Motion is preparing to deliver its bomb-proof instant messaging service on both Apple's iOS4 and Google's open source Android OS.

RIM would be eager to turn down its control of the BlackBerry's exclusive selling point - a messaging service that is so secure it has forced a number of sovereign nations to warn blanket ban insider access - there are two reasons.

Firstly, Blackberry's USP is no longer so exclusive. A number of third-party developers are now having mobile apps tied to ultra-secure messaging services which, that may not have the same status and history as BlackBerry Messenger.

The second is that RIM will possibly offer a somewhat hobbled edition of the software and service to customer using non-BlackBerry hardware in the hope that it will have a halo affect similar to which has seen iPhone customer defecting to the fruity side in their group.

The Android edition is under way and could be out before the year gets end, while the iOS version is still in the setting up stages.
